reserved for Indian individuals and bodies. The National Centre for Software

the general terms and conditions governing the '.in'
domain name registrations are as follows:
- Generic names are not allowed under '.in'
- For domains under all categories, except 'gen.in', the domain must
be derived from the name of the company/ organisation.
- The Administrative contact for the domain must be from the organisation/
institution requesting the domain name
- For domains under all categories, except 'gen.in' and 'ind.in', the
organisation/ institution applying for the domain name must have their
office in India.
- a. The organisation will be required to run name-servers for the domain
name.
b. These name servers must be up, permanently connected to the Internet,
and configured correctly to respond to DNS requests for the domain,
before the application is submitted.
c. These name-servers may belong to either the organisation or the Internet
Service Provider/ Web Service Provider.

You always have the option to select a name with a 3 letter-ending
domain name such as: ".com" for commercial establishments, ".org"
for Non-profit organisations, ".edu" for educational institutions.

When the Internet was first introduced in India, most people knew just
this option. Hence we find that a majority of the sites in India have
domain names with ".com" or ".org". ( Unfortunately
even our Government Departments/ Agencies have occasionally opted for
his option; there are several government sites of our country with the
domain "com" intended for the commercial houses)
Most of the companies in the world during that period

endings - millions of pages on the net with the ".com" domain.

The Third option is quite simple. You
do not have to make an application to any one or pay any registration
or renewal fee. We can allot you your company name or brand name or any

Once NCST or InterNIC (for web site hosting
or e-Mail, etc.) makes a domain name available to you, servers need to be
configured. Both the Primary DNS server (with NCST or InterNIC or both)
and the host server (ours) must be configured to properly accept and route
